No thanks, I'm just looking

Today I went on a personal shopping trip with a client. This particular person does not like shopping. When she first told me that, I couldn't believe it. I thought EVERYONE loved shopping. Well, I was wrong. It was very obvious being in the store with her that this was not her favorite thing to do. This client is always very self assured, confident, super smart and owns her own business. She was so out of her element in the store. So, this was right up my ally, to help her make shopping fun.

Immediately when we entered the store we were approachd by a somewhat aggressive and excited sales associate. My client made sure to state that she had her image consultant with her and therefore didn't need much assistance. This didn't seem to sink it with the sales person because she continued to follow us. She was borderline helpful, borderline irritating.

We had a good time selecting outfits and determing what she liked and disliked. We also had a couple of things that looked better on the hangar than on her petitie body, but that is normal for everyone based on their body shape.

Once we had put together a great versatile outfit we were ready to pay. The sales person accidentally rang up a pair of pants that we did not intend to buy. When we pointed that out to her, she first acted like it would be a major problem to void the transaction and then proceeded to tell us that actually we would spend more money if we removed the pants because we would get less of a discount. Now, I'm no mathematician but this didn't sound right. So, armed with a calculator I computed the price. Strangely enough, she was wrong. My client would save $40 by not purchasing the pants that she didnt want. This amount could be applied to the accessories that we would need and shoes. A girl must have shoes.

The experience with the sales associate made me realize that people who do not like to shop can actually be overwhelmed by the process. They don't want to be there to begin with and to top it off, they have a sales person who won't stop talking!

All in all, we had a successful trip. My advise to those who do not like to shop, do not let the salesperson pressure you into buying someting you do not want and watch your receipt to make sure you are not being overcharged.

Remember, shopping should be fun.

Making it about you,

Valerie
