Let's Stop Building Churches in Black Communities
There are four churches with a four block radius of my home. There are no coffee shops or drug stores. There are no sit down restaurants unless you include the eateries where you sit down and wait to get your order through a carousel in bullet proof glass. There are plenty of stores owned by other people who my people can buy one cigarette or pamper at a time. Of course there are beauty supply stores. We wear their hair, clothes and shoes - it's not a beautiful thing. In the midst of all of this again are the churches.
It's not the bricks or the class or the pews that have largely in a condition of powerlessness. But it is us. And until we can build ourselves through the word of God, not another church building needs to be built. If we can't be better and do better with the gazillion churches we have, there's no point to our "praise and worship" except for show not substance. Somebody say Amen!
