Blacks on the Cover, Whites at Corporate - Thinking of Ending My Essence Magazine Subscription
First of all, God willing, I will be 55 this spring. By what I've been reading over the last year, I think I'm older than their core demographic. And speaking of reading, there's nothing there. After the ads which I do realize pay for the thing, the beauty and fashion, relationships, celebrity news, there's not too much of the magazine left. This is not just Essence, but magazines period as more and more people go digital.
Back in the day, Essence used to be full of thought provoking articles. But I have to realize back in the day we owned it. That's another reason why I'm debating my subscription. I seek to support Black quality in it's many forms. But what would I be supporting here. In the end the profits go to Time magazine.
I relalize that back in the day is long gone. People change with the times and the times change with the people. The bottom line is that they're giving their audience what they want and if that is celebrity news, beauty and fashion, relationship advice; fine because it's all about the bottom line.
Let's see what the March issue brings.

Sister Jackie,
I hear you on the issue of magazines not filled with much except glamour and more glamour. Perhaps you should consider writing a letter to the editor to tell them what you would like to see more of. Perhaps they are mistaken that people like you don't have interest in the magazine.
