Stafford Loans--Still The Best Way to Pay for An Education!

Scholarships are a wonderful thing and most students (unless they already have a bachelors, or fail to meet the criteria for another reason) qualify for things like the Pell Grant, but when scholarships are not possible, a government student loan is an excellent way to pay for an education. One does not have to pay them back while still in school (which is a good reason to become a professional student) and when one does pay them back, affordable payment plans can be worked out, sometimes as low as $50 a month--in some cases, such as during unemployment, ill health, etc., they can be deferred for as long as necessary. Yes, you will build up debt, but debt is not always a bad thing, as long as you do not go into default--and most of the people who go into default are people who did not bother to ask for a deferment or who did not work out a payment plan. As for those loans, the Stafford loan continues to be, in my book, the best. It has nothing to do with one's credit rating and most people qualify to get one--the limits on it go over $100K, in most cases, especially if one intends to pursue a graduate degree. The important thing is to continue to get more education, especially if you want to advance in your field or industry. In a bad economy, it's best to avail oneself of every possible advantage. You can do it and now is as good a time as any to get your next degree!
