Obama's Promises When Running for President--What Changed His Mind?

One of the promises President Obama made when campaigning was that he would remove troops out of Iraq--for some reason, he has since changed his mind. Why? Analysis has proven that Iraq was not connected to terrorism, Al Qaeda, or 911, and it did not directly attack us. Also, S. Hussein was one of the few "westernized" leaders in the area who, in addition to being our ally in the Iran/Iraq war, oversaw a stable government--in other words, this was not a war-torn country like Sudan. Beyond this, we cannot afford to spend about $12 billion a month to stay there, when our own country can use such funds for job creation, etc. I ask again, why did Obama change his mind? I think that politicians should keep their word, especially if we voted for them because of the promises they made.
