Crime is on the Rise Across the Country!

We all hear too many stories in the news about women getting attacked, robbed, beaten or worse and it has been going on long enough! In the parks, on the subway train, in a mall parking lot, often in broad daylight! This economic recession has created a new type of criminal; the opportunist. This individual knows that there is a budget crunch across the nation that effects all government and state agencies, including the ones that promote public safety, mainly our police departments and prisons.I see a chain reaction in place. I've worked as a prison nurse for a few years and there used to be a sense of security working in this often volatile environment. But lately, there seems to be a shortage of qualified correctional officers, and recruitment is crucial right now. I feel a little insecure walking around with a rookie who doesn't know the ropes and hasn't "cut his teeth" yet. The prisons are overcrowded, inmates are being let out with early release. They watch the news, too. They know that some cities are laying off police officers so they target those cities for crime. I live in a small suburban community with a small police presence and in the past 2 years have seen a steady rise in crime from petty theft to physical assaults, burglary, home invasions and rape. A young lady was recently attacked in front of her place but she used a pepper spray to ward off the criminal. That was her saving grace, pepper spray. So I 've become aware of my own personal safety at all times.I've taken basic self-defense classes, I take different routes home at night. I have security walk me to my car. I carry Mace on my keyring at all times and keep one on my visor in the car. Because after all, who can I really count on to help me when the situation arises? I take personal responsibility for my own safety. I know that when the time comes, I'll be ready for him (or her)! For more info about personal safety products, visitmy website: www.womenfightback2.com

Yes you are right in saying that these criminals watch the news, too. We need to take the proper precautions to secure our own safety.
