SAFETY IN OUR CHANGING TIMES!
More and more folks are turning to things to protect themselves such as personal alarms, pepper sprays, and stun guns. This bad economy is causing more fraud and more petty crimes. Maybe a person is not actually a criminal or criminally minded in the past, but because they feel desparate for money, they are willing to snatch a pocketbook and run. When you are out in public, you should always lock your car doors, even while you're driving, and definitely when you go into a place of business, even if "just for a minute". In fact, you should get into the habit of ALWAYS locking up your car, even at home in your own driveway. Keeping a pepper spray or stun gun in your car is also a fabulous idea, particularly when you hear of all these muggings, robberies, abductions and such. Whenever you are outdoors after dark, whether you are leaving a school, business, or church, or even if you are in your own neighborhood walking the dog, you should walk briskly and stay only in well lighted areas avoiding possible places where an attacker could be waiting. You should carry a loud whistle, an electronic one that runs on batteries that's loud enough to "wake the dead". This is another instance where a keyring pepper spray would be a great thing to carry with you. You have heard it said that if someone is in need of help, rather than shout, "HELP ME!" it is better to yell "FIRE!" People are more likely to come out see if a fire is nearby, but the word "help" scares them away, as most people do not want to get involved. Whenever you need to visit an ATM, why not plan to do it during the day? I see so many women standing at an ATM at night and I say to myself, "There's a victim looking for trouble." Why take the chance of doing this activity at night, especially when you consider the way that things are these days? Your personal safety should be TOP PRIORITY right now. We simply have to change our lifestyles along with the changing times. Be smart, be careful, be protected and be SAFE! Great information Sister Alethia. I'm always locking my car doors and my husband laughs at me when I ask him to lock the doors when he's driving. I do need to get the pepperspray and a whistle on my key ring. In addition to what you have said, I would add that we should always be aware of our surroundings at all time.
