Winning The Race!
Absolutely nothing is out of reach when you put your heart into it. Think about it. Only you can set the boundaries and limits in your life?
Remember, the race is not always won by the swiftest, but the one who doesn’t give up and continues pushing forward is often the one who wins. Therefore, don't falter along the way and always keep the finish line in your heart and on your mind. When I began reflecting on this verse in II Timothy 4:7, I thought about my life and your lives and the world and year in which we are living. I think most of us would agree that in many ways and at many levels, the best descriptive word for this year and season of our lives would be “unexpected.”
You were chosen by God and created to fulfill His dreams, plans and purpose. Often times we allow so much focus to be placed upon ourselves and our own objectives, we forget the real reason for which we were created. Just as you dream, He also dreams. Long before you were created, God had a dream and from this dream came your marathon. For His purpose, you were created. Throughout the Word, God refers to the race and gives a specific training recipe for victory. Are you ready to be a champion for Him?
It will take hard work, discipline, sharp focus and sacrifice. Sure, it would be easier to sit on the sidelines and be a cheerleader for others. But, I challenge you to join the race and discover what great things God has dreamed for you.
What we plan for often comes to an unexpected end. That makes me think of an old, old, fable—by Aesop
The Tortoise and the Hare
A Hare one day ridiculed the short feet and slow pace of the Tortoise, who replied, laughing: "Though you be swift as the wind, I will beat you in a race." The Hare, believing her assertion to be simply impossible, assented to the proposal; and they agreed that the Fox should choose the course and fix the goal. On the day appointed for the race the two started together. The Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course. The Hare, lying down by the wayside, fell fast asleep. At last waking up, and moving as fast as he could, he saw the Tortoise had reached the goal, and was comfortably dozing after her fatigue. Why did the Hare lose the race? Was it Pride? Lack of motivation? Incorrect expectations?
Really, the important question is why did the tortoise win?
Slow and steady wins the race
Consistency
Plodding determination
Refusal to give up
Keeping the goal in sight
Realistic expectation
Think about it, the turtle probably never thought he could beat the hare and he was probably as surprised as anyone that he won. He set out to finish the race, did the best he could, and perchance, won. But he did win—how unexpected.
Maybe Even More Important FOR US! God intends for us to finish the race by following His instructions and doing our best, the rest is up to Him. That’s what we have done for several years now here in ALTF and we are now moving toward the finish line.
The race has been tough and we have face many difficult challenges. Ye we have remained steadfast on our journey. Sure we have often grown tired, but we have not given up. We have even struggled, but persevered. I challenge you to look inside yourself and find your second wind. Develop yourself and your skills to success.
You are invited to join us tonight as we take another step toward our finishing line. In this ALTF race, we can all win. We are now focusing on adding twenty-one business and professional people in the following cities to become ALTF Associate Owners: Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Oakland, and Philadelphia.
