"JUST DO IT"

“Just Do It”

According to Maya Angelou “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”

To create change we must first acknowledge the need for change. Change does indeed take courage, but without change we will remain stuck in the past. In order to move forward in life, we must first decide that we are tired of our present position. The now corporate giant Nike did. Only then can we move forward and seek ways to begin learning the proper process for relocating to the position that we so desire. We must take the first step outside of our comfort zones and into the fear that we have allowed to hold us captive in that undesirable position for too long. It is only then that we can recognize that it takes both effort and action to create the success we are seeking. In the past what has kept many of us from moving forward and experiencing the success that we so desire is not understanding what actions to take; so we don’t take any action. We literally stay stuck in that miserable undesirable place of hopelessness. Well take a look at what Nike did.

In his March 30,1998 Newsweek article: “When Nike Goes Cold” Jolie Soloman states that Nike was in a tough spot in the late 1970’s. It was being swamped by Reebok’s quick initiative on designing aerobics shoes and needed to respond dramatically and forcefully. It could be argued that the “Just Do It” campaign was not only about sneakers but about Nike’s own renaissance. Like you, Nike was no longer content in it’s present position of being the choice running shoe of a few thousand marathoners and exercise nuts. Nike wanted to expand its operation to target every American, regardless of age, gender or physical-fitness level. “Just Do It” succeeded in that it convinced Americans that wearing Nikes for every part of your life was smart (the shoes are designed for comfort) and hip (everyone else is wearing them, you too can belong to this group.) Nike took its own advice and “Just Did It” by directly attacking Reebok in the sport-shoe market.

Marian Wright Edelman once said: “If you don’t like the way the world is, you change it. You have an obligation to change it. You “ Just Do It” one step at a time. Sometimes the whole idea of motivation can be a trap. There are times when we must forget the motivation piece and “Just Do It”. If we all adopted the "Just Do It" attitude, it would get done.

As demonstrated in our strategic packaging of ALTF we have set out to demonstrate what Nike and Marian Wright Edelman have said and demonstrated and we’ve seen things that needed to be changed and we’re doing it one step at a time and one city at a time. For it is truly our time. I believe that a proactive approach to change can result in greater confidence and clarity. Again I challenge you to “Just Do It” and embrace change and take your life in directions you never imagined

You are invited to join us tonight as we embrace change and take another step toward our finish line. In the ALTF race, we can all win. We are now focusing on adding twenty-one business and professional people in the following cities to become ALTF Associate Owners: Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Nashville, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia, and Raleigh Durham.
