Sistahs Lose the Do-Rag, Please!

Sistahs Lose the Do-Rag, Please!

Alright, let's just put it out there, what's up with the do-rags? I'm not talking about the headwraps a la Erykah Badu. I'm not talking about the oh so chic chiffon scarf rocked when wearing your oversized shades while driving a convertible. (Ok I watch too much TV.) I'm not even talking about the hip hop fashion do-rags that come in a variety of colors.

I'm talking about the do-rag whose main function is to keep a sistah's hair tight while she sleeps. The one that can get a little ratty through the years and one that you usually snatch off should a visitor show up unannounced first thing in the morning.

I see some of the raggediest (Is that a word?) do-rags out and about no matter the time of day or place. Often it's because the sistah is still trying to preserve her style. I get it, but could we look like it's a purposeful look as opposed to "I'm just getting out of or going into bed" look? Or worse, it looks like you just don't give a dang.

It also makes me ask the question - just what are you saving the style for? I have seen the same sistahs with their bed caps on Monday morning, Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening. Do you mean to tell me you get your hair done on Saturday then spend the next week or two or three with it covered up? Let's banish the bed look please - you all are making me sleepy.

What are your thoughts? Have do-rags gotten out of hand or will you hold tight to your rag - straggly strands and all?

LOL! Okay, this is so funny...but TRUE! i agree with you Terreece. There are other less "unfashionable" ways to preserve hairstyles. ~ E
