Black Cop+ White Cop=Dead Cop
What a tragedy. A rookie police officer risked his life by pursuing a suspected car thief while off duty, and was shot down by another fellow officer. His name was Omar Edwards and was the father of two.
The officer who shot Edwards, claims that he did not identify himself and when he told Edwards to stop and drop it, he turned around with the gun still and hand. I guess he had no choice but to shoot.
Yeah right.
Cops have been told to shoot first and ask questions later, which is definitely understandable. In a gun battle, the decision to ask questions first could be the last decision a cop ever makes.
So are we saying the lives of a cop is more important than the lives of innocents? Do cops really feel comfortable knowing that the next person they shoot may be in fact innocent? This mistake has one too many times.
His excuse will be that he did not know. Edwards did not identify himself. He did not drop his weapon.
Then man was in the middle of a pursuit. His adrenaline was probably rushing through his body. Many people do unreasonable things in the heat of a moment. Edwards on the other, hand, did what any sane person would do when distracted: he turned to see what his distraction was and for that, he no longer lives among us.
The cop shot in the heat of the moment. Edwards responded in normally in his situation. So why is Edwards dead?
Why can cops justify their reasons for shooting, while the victims can never justify their actions?
An even better question: What happened to the suspected car thief?
