A Message to Marta Fernandes: Black women have always held the torch in their communitties!

This morning I posted my first blog entry on Black Women Connect regarding the essence of what makes the black woman beautiful ....you had some interesting comments and in light of your question, i felt compelled to respond. Unfortunately Marta, those Dominican female role models you speak of are not as obviously apparent in Boston.....many of the professional latina women here and latino professionals period consider themselves to be WHITE or aspire to be,you're cuban and/or puerto rican? I'm sure you're well aware of what i'm talking about here.... my message? simply to acknowledge the beauty of the african heritage that is so proudly carried, kept and guarded by African American and West Indian women in their respective communitties, one could only dream of growing up in NYC.......for those of us that dont have that access there is always a beautiful sister in an urban setting emulating and modeling personal and spiritual succees; my point in this blog entry was merely to acknowledge the obvious that so often gets taken for granted because the black woman is EXPECTED to have it together....but as my my colleague Kenya Wilson so clearly articulated, I too pay homage to the aura and confidence that the black woman exudes...to all those BLACK WOMEN who modeled success to this youngster, again I say THANK YOU!
