The Next? Are we grooming the Next? (2275 hits)

I've found myself in the "aging" demographic and have been wondering about how much our "life and times" will be remembered or forgotten. I look at a Rev Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and wonder who they are mentoring to step into their shoes. I once had the pleasure to shadow both for just half an afternoon and saw what a big job they stepped into - even with all the controversy. I wonder the same even about Black Hollywood - filmakers and such to see what if any strides we've actually made or are making. Is it easy today to follow in Spike Lee shoes - wanting "ownership" of your work?

The "Pew Report" which was a survey of African American thoughts and climate, says that most African American felt they have a difficult time learning from and duplicating the "success" of generations before them. How and why is that? Are we grooming the next?

Yalanda I hope that Jackson and Sharpton aren't grooming anyone. I am deeply skeptical of the both of them and I see them as playahaters and 'pimps' who only profit off of poor black people. This is my opinion and I am really sorry that I feel this way, but I can say that it has nothing to do with Obama. I have seen Sharpton and Jackson as opportunists for many years. The both of them should have sat down years ago, because I don't think they are in touch with the needs of most African American people.

Ironically Jackson and others were groomed by the King movement and get this declared by the Hoover camp not to be a threat after the assassination of dr. king. It is in reports that they and many to come would not excite the negroes into another movement whereas the negro would be a threat or demand certain freedoms.
