Music has a major influence on our actions whether we want to admit it or not. And I am proud of the Hip Hop artists that are encouraging our young people to vote. For example, one of the greatest to ever touch the mic, Mr. Jay- Z himself, is giving a free concert in Miami in support of Senator Obama. All you have to do is go by one of the Campaign for Change offices in the area and pick up the tickets! Brilliant! Jay-Z touches every race, not just African Americans. He even had Sen. Obama brushing the dirt off his shoulder. Big Boi and Ludacris have put out songs in support for Obama just recently. “Something’s Got To Give” is the name of Big Boi’s single in which he got a lil help from our girl, Mary J. Blige. And Ludacris’ song, “Politics As Usual”, caused some controversy but he was just speaking his mind. And of course P.Diddy is always pushing his people to “Vote or Die”. Mos Def ( I love Mos Def) has an interesting way of looking at why he thinks Obama will win with statements like “He appeals to America’s sense of vanity on a level that people might not even be ready to admit.” Politics have been a huge part of Hip Hop since day one and these artists SHOULD use there powers for good. Other celebrities, such as Madonna, apparently can’t stand Sarah Palin. She says that Palin is not welcomed to attend her concert. Did Madonna forget that Palin likes to hunt? And the queen of daytime talk shows, Ms. Oprah Winfrey, backs Sen. Obama all the way. But I can’t help but wonder…..WWTD (what would Tupac do).
