Ramadan Kareem--to all our Sisters in Islam (530 hits)

What anthropologist of any worth while standing, does not walk in the shoes of the culture she is interested in?

Yes I have studied Islam. Absolutely fascinating. I studied it from the Middle East Perspective, from Indonesia (the largest group in the world), from Russia, Eastern Europe, Africa, South America and even in Cuba, my country there is a Mosque in Havana.

I have read quite a bit in the Holy Quran . I have attended the Mosque, and participated in Ramadan and the Eid feast to celebrate its ending. I married a Muslim, and learned Al-Fatiha. I followed the traditions, and laws. My name had I decided to stay married would be Marta Suhail.

I began my journey by attending the Nation of Islam Mosque in Las Vegas. Joining the MGT.( some mighty fine sisters in all aspects.) I then went onto the Sunni sect and joined the Mosque that Mike Tyson attended.

Regardless, of my personal journey? I have a tremendous respect for Muslim followers.

I have a deep and abiding respect for the Holy Koran, just as they have a respect for we Christians as the "People of the Book." As you saw, Sister Cheralyne Muhammad leave some of her favorite proverbs on my "Stop by and show some Love blog."

If you did not know, Minister Farrakhan quotes scripture constantly. A lot has changed in America. What I would like every Black person in the Diaspora to know, is that it takes courage to drop one's paternal..i.e.slave name and become a follower of Muhammad. It takes courage and conviction to eschew our slave names, period. Whether it is Spanish, Portuguese, French, or English (Britain.)

It made me cry to see a sister, one of our own , a beautiful sister attack another one and mock her name. A name is sacred.

I love learning about different religions. My local book store just ordered a paper back Holy Koran for me. One of my friends is going to help me learn to read it.My friend has told my many times how wonderful this(I guess I can say , book?)is.

I love the way you get escorted to your car, two of us women alone leaving the Mosque the few times I attended a service.

Isaac, I had the pleasure of seeing Minister Farrakhan speak in OaKland, Ca. in the early 90s. This great man is spellbinding is all I can say.
