Is that your real hair??? I actually heard someone ask their co-worker this at a meeting today. (803 hits)
I think it is so rude when someone, be it a man or woman, black or white, asks someone if that is their real hair. Yes, we know that many women are wearing wigs and weaves these days and could care less if anyone knows it. However, I still find it to be very ignorant for someone to come right out and ask the question. This was asked in a professional setting, at a conference. The woman that the question was directed to did not know how to respond. One could see that she was embarrased. I felt bad for her. How would you have answered the questions? Do you feel this is not acceptable? Do you freely give out the information about your wigs/weaves without any shame? Are men turned off by weaves and wigs?
..."However, I still find it to be very ignorant for someone to come right out and ask the question..."
Yeah that is so ignorant, but when I used to wear 'other hair' which you now know how after I had that bad experience one day long ago in the park, I would say yeah it's my hair.... I BOUGHT IT!
But I get what you mean. How can anyone even form the words to even as such a personal question like that?

I think we talk too much, If someone would ask me that I wouldn't even answer. If I had hair. But people ask me all the time why don't I have hair. ( I am Bald) and I am a beautiful black women 100%) and I say" because I opt not too period. Or why don't we ask that person, is that your hair? and say let me see? (smile)

Of course it's rude but I always ask them with my broadest smile and inquisitive eye, 'Why would you care to know such a thing?" As the flounder for the appropriate answer, I reply, "Oh, I thought you asked because you thought it was important." You gotta pull people up short sometimes.
