true dat!! ..I was "tooken" by ur analysis..just playin' ..love Ebonics :-)
Minister B.. says it will always be. I understand that.
It has been stated that some "people" who had high I.Q.'s didn't go to college for fear of being perceived as white? what? look ..if that was the case they needed counseling on self esteem, and self worth and employment issues...." Black" men were not specified in the above statement and yet this was the topic raised..what people? because I am a child of the 60's from an exclusive neighborhood then, called East Elmhurst..and I know a brother also from my 'hood who though brilliant was dealing drugs and using them also, he spoke well, looked well, the family was from the Bahamas, and he went on to Boston School of Law. The issue here is multi-dimensional, one sister said that at issue is the theft of Black culture ; True. And I am adding the denial of good schooling, after school actilvities, disposable income, oppression and disenfranchisement..created a new sub-culture .
One cannot compare that to other Nationalities because the paradigm they are operating is foreign to them. Black Americans are part of this country. We foreigners are not, I don't care how many become "naturalized citizens. "
"Latino/Asian/African" culture/people are not in this plastform. How could we possibly speak Ebonics when we are a product of a different language/ culture? However, I learned how to speak Ebonics, because I want to "connect" and enlarge my view, when people learn another language they like that culture and want to connect.
When Rush Limbaugh starts talking about "baby momma" they have infiltrated the codes. It's an infiltration, because it is said to ridicule..I think that is the bottom line.
But Minister B, is right..why should it go away? it's a part of Black American Cullture and the ruling elite ,adopted some of it , cloned it and marketed and made millions off -of it. If you want to get jiggy with it..go tell the Haitians to stop speaking Creole and speak French. oops...Here is the real --Ebonics is very much a part of the tapestry of Black American Culture. Free agency; some people want to be part of the mainstream and some don't. It's all good. Relax. That's America --rugged individualism isn't just for redneck cowboys..and that's why they have black cowboys!! Peace . As Bob Marley sings "One Love."
