DuQuaye Williams of Patchwerk Records is doing bigger things than he ever imagined. I was honored to be able to sit down with him and pick his brain. Before he graduated from Hampton University he landed a lucrative career in the medical field but something was missing. He struggled back and forth about which path to follow. Leave this great job he was blessed with or give it all up to peruse what was in his heart? And by the looks of things, I believe he chose right. He started by interning at Patchwerk Records on their street team. He was not above passing out flyers and CDs on the streets of Atlanta to achieve what he came for. He eventually became a photographer for the company which led to Mr. Williams working in the marketing department. Which eventually led to the business man we know today. Mr. Williams is making major moves. He is rapping up his season finale of “Wanna B A Star” which is held at the Apache Café in Atlanta. This show is a competition with two categories, R&B and Hip Hop. There is an elimination process and whom ever is the last two acts standing gets major hook ups. The package consists of a professional photo shoot, free studio time, a Myspace page makeover, voice lessons and much more. DuQuaye’s whole purpose for doing this show is so that the average person may have a chance to fulfill their dreams as well. He is already getting calls asking him to take “Wanna B A Star” on the road! He enjoys being able to bridge the gap. But that’s not all this master mind has up his sleeve. In the very near future Mr. Williams will have his DuLaWi Entertainment Company up and running. This company will be a one stop shop for his artist. There will be in house A&Rs, producers, back up dancers, and a host of other necessities to complete their projects. Absolutely Genius. DuQuaye Williams is confident, focused, and might I add, a wonderful person. He came, he saw, he is concurring.
