In our community, we give little or no thought to long term care insurance. I believe is it because we do not fully understand the importance of it, or what is covers. I wil be doing a series of blogs on this topic and will be answering questions as we go along. Long term care is expensive, and for that matter most families choose to do it themselves. Caring for a loved one can be very overwhelming for even the most dedicated, devoted and loving family. If you have ever done that, you know exaclty what it is like. The alternative is Nursing Home, Assisted Living, Home Health Care services, etc. This can turn out to be quite expensive, so we need to start preparing for that possibility now. In my next entry I will talk about the activities of daily living, and the point at which long term care becomes necessary. Looking forward to a discussion on this topic.
Thanks for your comment Jennifer. These facilities are getting better equipped and staffed. I have visited them and find that the condition, of the ones I have visited are excellent. However, we should bear in mind that Long Term Care insurance pays for In Home Health care so that the patient can choose to stay in their homes and get quality care. win-win solution.

I think it is important that we have started a discussion on this topic. Knowledge is power, and we need to know that we have choices, and to be in a position to make informed decisions.
