Did you know that companies in the US have said they would hire a white man with a felony record and no high school education BEFORE they would hire a black man with NO criminal record and a 4-year degree ?
On Wednesday Ju ly 23rd at 9pm and Thursday Ju ly 24th at 9pm , CNN will premier a series, 'Black in America with Soledad O'Brien' and all are encouraged to watch it WITH your children, especially your sons, if you have any, uninterrupted. The aforementioned statistic and many others will be revealed during the series.
On Wednesday the series will focus on Women and Families, and Thursday is dedicated entirely to the plight of the Black Man in America .
Please watch and internalize what you see and hear; no matter HOW disturbing the information revealed is.
Yes I did. I live my passion as a cultural anthropologist. To that end I actually do empirical observations every day of my life. Everywhere. It is how I gather my info without the easily manipulated academic "statistics." When I lived in Las Vegas, I noticed that a lot fo the "white" Managers in the local convenience stores, were uneducated. After years of this observation I began to think, that there had to be Black men and women with degrees in business who would not be hired. Vegas has a large transient population and uneducated, poor whites. They are given opportunities to pull themselves up from the drugs and poverty that surround them. they are first hired, are able to get mortgages on their Casino workers salaries, cars and any other upwordly mobile opportunity that they reach out for. As well, If a Black male or female has a felony,they can forget it. It will be a tough fight, they will have to retain a lawyer. I lived in Vegas for ten years. Cut my teeth in politics, civics and business ownership. I Homeschooled my children and did everything possible to avoid having my son become another statistic. My son who is now 22 years-old and the CEO of his own company, said to me "Mom" I thought you were paranoid. No son I just observe and take notes, and ask white people about black people and they actually tell me exactly how they feel. While his generation is the push behind Obama, my son actually donated to him early on in the campaign, ( I felt very proud of him) while they mix and mingle, there is still the 35-year old and up demographic that is extremely racist. Whites both male and female.

I am so glad that someone finally tapped into this topic. Its amazing to me that still today, so many black people think this does not happen or exist. Some people feel as if it is the person's fault that no one will hire them, or that they are just plain stupid. In reality its the race game thats being played and has been played. I would love to know how we as african americans can overcome this racist battle with employers, and get the jobs we need and qualify for to help take care of our families.
