Black adoption and working with children with speical needs and autism. (498 hits)
I come from a family who has always accepted all children. My maternal grandmother took in neighborhood children, with my grandfather right by her side. She birthed 13 biological children, one died as an infant. When my grandparents died they had over 40 biological grandchildren and God knows how many adopted/community children. She fed everyone and truly made a difference in her community. It truly was a village raising a child in those days, which was not that long ago (60's and 70's). My parents raised me and my two sisters, I am the oldest. They too took care of relatives' children and would care for children in our community. Why is it that there is such a shortage in african american foster homes and adoptions. There are so many black children in need of a loving home. What happen to our village? Another question I have is why is it that we as african americans do not get the psychological help that we need, or help our children need? Is it that the resources are not readily available to us, or is it that we are all in denial, or too ashamed to ask for help? Can anyone give me the percentage of black children living with special needs and/or autism????
Hello Vanessa, I can't give you the statistics, but I am concerned. I am a foster parent and as such, I have a project going on that I just can't seem to get folks excited about. Please take a look and submit something... http://revolutionarydisciples.com/Upcoming... , Thanks. Be blessed and be a blessing continually...
