HOW WHIAEEE for HISPANICS YEAR IN REVIEW SEASONS' GREETINGS! (1042 hits)

For Immediate Release From White House Initiative On Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, And Economic Opportunity For Hispanics!

Dear leader,

Emmanuel Caudillo, Jasmin Chavez and I from the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics write to extend our gratitude for your collaboration in serving the Latino community throughout the year alongside our office, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and our colleagues with the White House and federal agencies.

Below please find some of our favorite 2022 highlights, updates, jobs and key deadlines -- some of which are this month and early in January 2023.

We're eager to build on our work together in the new year. With more funding in education than ever before – and historic calls from President Joe Biden for agencies to advance equity in ways our nation has never seen – 2023 will bring a once-in-a-lifetime moment to raise the bar, transform our education system and create the more equitable and inclusive society that our children, workers and families deserve.

We wish you a restorative holiday and year-end season, and look forward to raising the bar with you all in 2023!

Sincerely,

Melody Gonzales

Executive Director, White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics

Thanks to supportive leaders like you, in and out of the federal government, we led some remarkable efforts in 2022 bridging the Latino community and Administration. It was a pleasure to close the year sharing the story of our work in this Axios interview: https://www.axios.com/2022/12/13/axios-eve...

Together...

We brought Biden Administration officials -- including First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Secretaries Miguel Cardona (ED) and Xavier Becerra (HHS), SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman and others – directly into Latino communities.

Thanks to the Aspen Institute, especially their Latinos and Society team, we hosted six White House Initiative Latino Economic Summits at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) sharing information about how the community can better leverage historic federal jobs/internships, procurement opportunities and resources made possible under impactful efforts like the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and more. https://sites.ed.gov/hispanic-initiative/w...

You welcomed us to update the community on Administration and ED at over 30 Latino, HSI, labor and corporate organizations' in-person and virtual events across several states and in Puerto Rico.

We shared information and inspiration through English and Spanish language virtual and hybrid events like: our COVID-19 vaccine update https://www.facebook.com/lulac.national.dc... Cesar Chavez Day Teach-In https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJ... Hispanic Heritage Month Conversaciones con Lideres series https://sites.ed.gov/hispanic-initiative/c... briefing on Department of Defense STEM resources and Mujeres Advancing Pay and Gender Equity Latina Equal Pay Day panel. https://dodstem.us/?utm_content=&utm_mediu...

In support of our executive order https://sites.ed.gov/hispanic-initiative/e... we established an Interagency Working Group (IWG) in a new and exciting way involving over 120 federal staff serving on 30 agency teams. https://sites.ed.gov/hispanic-initiative/f... We’re looking forward to more great work with our IWG and to welcoming 21 Latino leaders who were announced by the White House as the recommended candidates to serve on the President’s Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity https://sites.ed.gov/hispanic-initiative/p... Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics.

A few highlights of some of the work: Click: https://sites.ed.gov/hispanic-initiative

From the American Rescue Plan, to grants to strengthen the teacher pipeline and support postsecondary student success, and more, ED is working to support states, local school districts and institutions of higher education in leveraging historic funds to serve students and address equity issues exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
1.8 million people are breathing easier thanks to the nearly $48 billion in targeted loan relief delivered by ED, including $24 billion to 360,000 borrowers through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness waiver.

Staff from offices like the Office for Migrant Education, Hispanic Serving Institution Division, Office for English Language Acquisition, Office for Civil Rights and others are leading their work with Latino and Spanish-dominant students and families in mind.
New initiatives are now launched that we encourage you to connect with, like:

Engage Every Student Initiative
National Partnership for Student Success
Raising the Bar: Literacy and Math Series
Raise the Bar: STEM Excellence for All Students
Raise the Bar: Unlocking Career Success Initiative
Advancing Digital Equity for All: Community-based Recommendations for Developing Effective Digital Equity Plans to Close the Digital Divide and Enable Technology-Empowered Learning

Running on the promise to quickly tackle these crises head-on, they and our Administration are now delivering results for working families and making the federal government work for all Americans, including the Latino community.
