Jennifer Sheehy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy, wrote a blog for the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on "#ADA30: Increasing Access and Opportunity and the Thrill of Discovering What You Can Do." Legacy of the ADA Webinar Series

The Council of State Governments (CSG), in collaboration with ODEP's State Exchange on Employment & Disability (SEED), is hosting a six-part webinar series to explore the foundation and impact of the ADA. The webinars will feature policymakers, subject matter experts, and other leaders in the field discussing inclusive policies and programs to improve employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Topics will include the inception of the ADA, states as model employers of people with disabilities, accessible technology and transportation, stay-at-work/return-to-work initiatives, and more. The first webinar on "The Legacy of the ADA: Celebrating 30 Years of Increasing Access and Opportunity!" will take place on July 30 from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. ET. A certificate and verification of completion will be provided to participants for each webinar.

Pre-ETS as a First Step Along the Student's Career Pathway

The Inclusive Career Pathways Community of Practice will host a meeting on "Pre-ETS as a First Step Along the Student's Career Pathway" on August 11 from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. ET. The meeting will include a discussion on pre-employment transition services (Pre-ETS) for students with disabilities who are, or may be, eligible for vocational rehabilitation services. The presentation will share examples of how activities within each of the five Pre-ETS services align within the Career Pathways Framework and how they help students identify a career pathway and explore related work-based learning opportunities.

Future of Work Podcast

The Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology (PEAT) released a new episode of its Future of Work podcast series on "Understanding Workplace Accessibility Technology Testing." In the episode, Hadi Rangin, Information Technology Accessibility Specialist for Accessible Technology at the University of Washington, discusses the importance of accessibility testing in the technology procurement process.

Western Governors' Association Special Report

The Western Governors' Association (WGA) published a "Reimagining the Rural West Initiative Special Report." The initiative was a central policy effort of WGA Chair and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. It was launched in July 2019 to help rural communities tap into opportunities in economic trends and technological innovation, and included a collaboration with ODEP's State Exchange on Employment & Disability (SEED) specific to disability employment policy. The Special Report includes a dozen recommendations on the expansion of broadband access in rural communities and tribal lands, improvement of the efficacy of federal and state programs to support critical infrastructure, and the education and training of rural citizens, including those with disabilities, for the jobs available in their communities.

Americans with Disabilities Act 30th Anniversary

The Office of Disability Employment Policy posted information on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of its signing on July 26, 1990. Featured is a timeline highlighting disability employment legislation enacted since the signing of the ADA and other notable related events from the past 30 years. Also included are suggestions on ways for organizations and individuals to celebrate ADA30.
