HOW MARYLANDERS TO PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE SEEKS LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT ON CONCEALED GUN CARRY LAWS! (3663 hits)

For Immediate Release From Marylanders To Prevent Gun Violence!

As the legislative session heads toward the final weeks, your voice is still needed in Annapolis! Senate President Mike Miller has fought hard this session to protect Maryland's strong concealed carry laws by working to (https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-handgun-board-20190308-story.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=1d5eec0b-060c-44c2-91d7-1a068130c615) eliminate loopholes in the handgun permit appeal process.

Now, Senator Beidle's bill (SB 1000) will ensure that Maryland's strong conceal carry standards are upheld by abolishing the Handgun Permit Review Board and placing the appeals with administrative law judges in the Office of Administrative Hearings. With a large number of trained and knowledgeable judges, this is the perfect place for handgun permit denial appeals to be heard in a timely and impartial manner.

Senate Bill 1000 was just voted out of the Executive Nominations Committee! While it still needs a vote in the Judicial Proceedings Committee, we need to start making some noise with our senators to ensure its passage on the floor. If you don't have your senator's number on hand, look it up here (https://mdpgv.salsalabs.org/lookup/index.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=1d5eec0b-060c-44c2-91d7-1a068130c615&eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=1d5eec0b-060c-44c2-91d7-1a068130c615).

Sample Script:

Senator ___________, My name is _____________ and I live in your district. I urge you to support Senate Bill 1000 to ensure that Maryland's strong concealed carry laws are protected. The appeals of concealed carry permits should be decided by experienced judges. Thank you.

And if you have an extra minute or two, be sure to thank Senator Pam Beidle for her leadership. She not only championed the bill but also the Maryland State Troopers who work so hard to uphold our gun laws. You can email her or tweet her (@PamelaBeidle) your appreciation.

Thank you for your advocacy!
