SIRI Saves A Life: When Teen Is Pinned Under His Truck, He Can Only Pray. Then He Hears a Voice From iPhone (720 hits)
In a serious case of good publicity for Apple’s iPhone, a Tennessee man is crediting Siri with saving his life.
Eighteen-year-old Sam Ray was at home alone, working on his truck’s undercarriage, when the jack supporting the vehicle suddenly fell apart, WFLX reports, leaving the teen pinned below the truck and unable to move.
As Ray tried to free his leg, his iPhone, which was in his back pocket, suddenly lit up and sounded a familiar tone. Ray recognized the sound as Siri — the iPhone’s “intelligent personal assistant” — activating and ready for a command, so he shouted “call 911.”
In a statement released by Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Ray recalled:
“When I heard a woman talking from inside my pocket, I just started shouting. I didn’t know if she could hear me or not, but I heard her say that help was just around the corner.”
The woman on the other end was 911 dispatcher Christina Lee, WSMV reports, who rushed emergency vehicles to Ray’s location.
The two had an opportunity to meet ....
And while Siri undoubtedly was key to Ray’s survival, the teen was grateful to a higher power as well:
“To survive and to be able to walk out, I have a great family and friends that are willing to pray and a God that will help me.”
Ray suffered broken ribs, a crushed kidney and burns from the vehicle. He has since fully recovered.
