Charleston Church Shooter Gets Additional 3 Counts (Attempted Murder) Added to 9 Counts of Murder (503 hits)

..." Dylan Roof was initially charged with the nine counts of murder, but the Charleston County solicitor sought and received the additional attempted murder charges as well. Three of the 12 people present at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church Bible study on June 17 survived; Roof reportedly told one of the survivors he was letting her live so she could recount the massacre to others.

An FBI investigation into whether Roof should also be charged under federal hate crime laws is still ongoing. Hate crime charges can only be brought against Roof at the federal level as South Carolina is one of the few states that has no hate crime laws on the books."...
