It's a first declaration that no major ground war is in effect in more than 14 years. This was a great salute to begin and start the Memorial Day ceremony speech for President Barack Obama. The President paid special tribute to military personnel, officials and soldiers who serve expedictionally in previous wars during his term of service as president. As part of his recognition President Obama stated that "For many of us this Memorial Day is especially meaningful."...It is the first since our war in Afganistan came to an end. "Today is the first Memorial Day in 14 years that the United States is not engaged in a ground war." The President hearld the accomplishment to end war, and spoke on reducing the additional 10,000 troops which remain in active duty over a course of time. The President also indicated the dangers of troops still in service and noted that Afganistan is still a very dangerous place spoke also how they still risk their lives for serving. Thousands attended to watch, hear and listen as well as remember fallen and unknown soldiers of war in the Memorial Day Annual Event.
