Fasting in one of the most deepest commitments made in prayer and meditation. It is a total exploration of mind over body and spirit over flesh. In addition, it is can be considered as a sacrifice of one's self denial to God.
Holding a fast is very personal in your religious journey. You will find connection with the Most High in deep capacity and with obtaining the Holy Spirit's many secrets of spiritual life. There may be a reason to hold a fasting meditation. Often, there is a goal; or an asking, even a preparation to present before the Holy Lord. Only you will need to know if you are having a secret fasting. If you are sharing fasting with others; then you still can have thoughts and prayers that compensate the same goal, only still in a personal way with others.
Group fasting is acceptable, still having a group fast there is a separation away to prayers and mindful fulfillment of diligent and honest heartfelt fasting. I suggest a full fast with no food, or water, but if you feel there will need to be at least hours will not eat or drink you are allowed to fast in such a way. Then, remember do not share the taking of fasting outside your group to others among your presence. You can simply refuse to take any offering of food.
You are in the control of beginning and ending your fast. However, God will be in control of its outcome. Therefore, take your fast seriously and with much devotion to hold close the Sackcloths.
