You would spell "Sanctimonious" and this was just the winning word for A Houston Middle School eighth grader Cady Baltz. She made home with a trophy from the 88th Memphis Shelby County Spelling Bee. The spelling bee was held on Saturday, February 07, 2015 at the Al Chymia Shrine Center in Memphis. 118 entries but only one came home a winner.
Cady gained that spelling win after 17 rounds. Now she'll advance to the national spelling bee to be held in Washington in May 2015. Cady said: "I'm shocked and relieved now. Excited too."
"After 17 rounds of spelling she probably felt totally santicimouious!"
Okay.. I misspelled it.. But you didn't catch it till I told ya! Ha!

The local photographer of Memphis newspaper of the Commercial Appeal was named Newspaper Photographer of the Year at the Pictures of the International competition. And the winner is Brad Vest. Vest captured the snaps with the entry of 40 pictures which included photos of last year's ice storm in West Memphis, Arkansas and a tornado whipping up Tupelo, Mississippi. The contest was judged by the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia, Missouri. Mr. Vest was notified of his win on Friday, February 06, 2015. He replied with a classic take of a statement saying: "I was genunely suprised." "It's a lot to "take" in that's for sure."
"He must be wearing the right Vest...I guess?" Ha!

St Jude renowned virologist has his career studying influzena, but he's been questioned as why conduct the study at the children's hospital? He has gained his honors in the studies and insists tha finding cures is research, and that's what his career is all about. Dr. Robert Webster has be recognized by the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health. Now the honored Dr. will be a winner into his retirment. Dr. Webster offically retired in January 2015, but continues to complete projects through February 2015. His St. Jude peers speak highly of the Dr. saying his influzena research will remain a priority at St. Jude and he's been called an incredible scientist. Dr. Webster is 82 years.
Aaaaaa...aaaaaChew! "Bless you Doc.." " I think he'll need a little bed rest."

Many volunteers across DeSoto Country wrapped up to distribute 19,700 free trees! The give away was on Saturday, February 07, 2015 at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven. Hundreds of residents flocked their landing to catch one of the free trees. The array of trees include flowering dogwood, cypress, pin oak and a favorite Southern Magnolia, red maple and lobolly pine. The free trees were part of project sponsered by the Desoto County Soil and Water Conservation District.
"If ya miss that winner...well you can wait till the trees grow up and drive down to the tree winner's houses. Do You know what I'm talkin bout?"
