@Siebra Do you think that self -hatred was a tool used to convert?, since Luke 14:26 says "If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, EVEN THEIR OWN LIFE--such a person cannot be my disciple.
I will say this Sister Helen, I don't believe Luke 14:26 literally means "hate" in the sense of "having intense animosity or disgust for", but should be understood as simply meaning “to love less.”
This verse is really implying that whoever has personal interests that take precedence over loyalty to God and devotion to His service will find it impossible to meet the requirements God makes of him. At all times and under all circumstances the call of the kingdom must take precedence. The service of God calls for the entire and permanent renunciation of self.
One must surely honor his mother and father; however, what should one do if their father or mother asked them to kill, or steal? Would they be disobeying God if they disobeyed them?
The general admonition to honor your mother and father is a good one. Indeed, in the example above, one should obey the laws of God that say "do not murder" above the commands of your parents. In Luke 14:26, it is laying out the marks of a true follower by using a common bond, the love for your parents and the love of self as a point of comparison. It says that to be a true disciple it requires total devotion. You cannot be more devoted to your parents and to yourself than to God.

We are not talking about historians or traveling by threes. We are talking about God helping Black Americans as the same God helped the Children of Israel when the Children of Israel were in bondage and slavery in Egypt as we Black Americans are in bondage and slavery in this country of White America.
