Missouri Governor Declares Emergency and Imposes Curfew in Ferguson (349 hits)
August 16, 2014 Gov. Jay Nixon of Missouri declared a state of emergency in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson on Saturday afternoon and ordered a curfew after a week of unrest following the fatal shooting of an unarmed African-American teenager by a local police officer. The governor’s action came hours after hundreds of demonstrators engaged in a standoff with the police early Saturday that was punctuated by threats and a new round of denunciations of law enforcement practices.
