Focus on the Family Announces Initiative to Help Save Marriages in Severe Crisis (374 hits)
Marriage » June 3, 2014 The National Institute of Marriage (NIM) is joining Focus on the Family to help save marriages in severe crisis. The program will combine the resources of Focus with NIM’s successful model that helps couples restore relationships.
Now known as Focus on the Family’s National Institute of Marriage, it offers multiple-day sessions at the Branson Retreat Center in Missouri. After husbands and wives complete a marriage intensive, they will receive support from Focus counselors.
“Our efforts to help couples in crisis have resulted in more than 140,000 marriages saved in the last 12 months alone,” said Focus President Jim Daly. “Bringing the National Institute of Marriage onboard will make us more effective at healing marriages facing the darkest of situations.”
NIM was founded in 2003 by Dr. Gary Smalley and his son Dr. Greg Smalley, who is vice president of Family Ministries sat Focus.
“Through intensives at the National Institute of Marriage, I have personally seen miracles happen,” Greg Smalley explained. “We’ve had divorce papers ripped up and hope restored as couples are able to receive expert help.”
NIM has helped more than 3,000 couples from across the country since 2003.
Two years after participating in a NIM marriage intensive program, 84 percent of the couples were still married.
“We know NIM’s methods are proven to work,” Smalley continued. “After their time at NIM, couples are able to see God’s vision for the future of their marriage.”
The merger will also allow counselors at Focus in Colorado Springs to refer couples to the program.
“Joining the Focus on the Family team is an incredible complement to our ‘Marriage ER’ work at the National Institute of Marriage,” said NIM co-president Robert Paul. “Working with Focus’ Family Help Center, counseling department and National Referral Network of trained Christian therapists will allow us to expand our reach to thousands of couples and bring them hope for a brighter future.”
