Addicted to Being Pregnant: Woman in the U K acts as a surrogate mom for FREE (852 hits)
A surrogate mom in the UK is so addicted to pregnancy that she won't stop until her "womb falls out."
Tara Sawyer, 37, has four children of her own, but has given birth seven times! In the past two years, she has birthed three children (two of whom are twins) for two couples and has no plans to slow down any time soon.
"Surrogacy is very addictive. It's a huge rush from the moment the test comes back positive," Sawyer told Mirror UK. "It's an amazing feeling to hand over a child to someone who desperately wants it, and I feel at my best whilst pregnant."
Sawyer is a mom to Rebecca, 14, Harrison, 12, and twin boys Jack and Noah, 4. The 37-year-old began to crave another baby when her twins were just newborns. The boys were born at 29 weeks via caesarean section after the infants developed twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, where the placenta is shared unequally between the two.
At that point, Sawyer explained that she felt "really deprived of the pregnancy," which is why she turned to surrogacy. "I would get my pregnancy and a couple would get their baby," she said.
Sawyer claims she feels happiest and healthiest when she is expecting. "I feel at my best physically when I'm pregnant," she explained. "I take vitamins, go swimming, do yoga and eat healthily. I hadn't made as much effort with my own pregnancies but the responsibility was bigger with someone else's child."
While being a surrogate is hard work physically and mentally, Sawyer amazingly does it all for free! Despite laws stating that surrogate moms are entitled to £15,000 (or just over $27,600) in expenses, Sawyer refuses to take any payment and simply enjoys the "thrill."
Surprisingly, the first surrogate baby Sawyer gave birth to two years was biologically her own daughter. However, the mom of four didn't feel any maternal love for the baby girl.
Sawyer explained: "I don't feel like I'm giving up a baby, I feel like I'm giving it back. I don't feel sad handing over a child that was never mine to keep."
This past January, Sawyer gave birth to twin boys for another couple. While the pregnancy just ended, she hopes to be expecting again by the end of the year. Surprisingly, her husband Matt has been nothing but supportive of Sawyer's decision to have ongoing pregnancies.
"When I'm not pregnant I feel empty and only a baby can fill that void," Sawyer said. "I'm addicted to the buzz of pregnancy and if I can help childless couples at the same time it would be insane not to."
Surprisingly, Sawyer's pregnancy addiction isn't the first to hit the news. Michelle Duggar, the famed mother from TLC's reality show 19 Kids and Counting, has been on the radar since 2008. Currently she is seeking advice from fertility doctors to see if it's safe to have another child. Additionally, Nadya "Octomom" Suleman gave birth to eight babies at once in 2009, after already having six kids.
Without a doubt, Sawyer's intention to be a surrogate mother is good. However, her pregnancy addiction, as well as these other extreme instances, will continue to raise health and financial concerns for the families of these women.
