NO MORE?
The unemployment benefits ended for at least 1.3 millions dependents on Saturday, December 28, 2013. This was due as politicians allow the renewal of the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program expired. The program started in 2008 assisting those unemployed during the recession period. However, it is expensive and as part of governmental budget cuts, the renewal was not allow to continue and ended on Saturday. This regrettably will leave many dependent on unemployment without any income at all. The renewal would allow benefits to continue for 47 weeks, but was left out and has also not been renewed. The extended program would cost the government at least 25 million dollars, the outlook according to some financial experts predicts will cause slowing of job growth, and stunt economic growth. The sufferers will be those who relied on the weekly checks for groceries and utilities. Democrats are pushing to have the program extended, but as of this date proposals are not moving to restore the extensions. Also experts speculate many will leave the workforce and take retirement due to the non-extended benefits program.
