Your World News September 2013 Day 24 Quetta, Pakistan
A real island maker/shaker...7.8
The western part of Pakistan experienced a major earthquake which not only shook fear among its civilians, but shook up a new island. The quake rattled with such force that 45 people have perished and many conditions of an earthquake caused much damaged. Amazingly, a new island that didn't exist was made from the jolting earth. Emergency medical and rescue persons assisted neighborhoods and villages with aid.
Thousands fled from office buildings in Baluchistan, and reports of mud slides also destroyed homes. The rare phenomenon of seeing the island appear from the sea has many in shock, the island is reportedly formed along the Gwadar Coastline in the Arabian Sea. Hardest hit area of Gwadar experienced the most damage, but the quake and aftershocks also were felt as far as New Delhi.
I saw that clip, and I immediately thought, unstable! It was full of rocks and ash, and they were pretty brave out in the middle of the sea on a newly developed island. It could go back to the sea anytime...I don't trust its safety. But they were curious. I'm sure they gathered samples to take home with them.
