How Can You Find Your Nurse Practitioner Specialty? (637 hits)
Most nurse practitioners know exactly what they want to do in a business. However, a few times a month, I hear from those who just cannot figure out which path to take. They love many aspects of practice, have lots of skills and enthusiasm, and thus have multiple options for business. This is something many of us can relate to. While it would be grand if we can do all the things that interest us, it's likely we'd do best to pick one to work on (and later consider doing another one). Such was the case with a lovely NP I met this past week.
Kim (not her real name) is a passionate FNP, loves to be a part of Geriatric Nursing as her specialty. In fact, she became a certified Geriatric Care Manager and had begun her business doing just this. However, she also wanted to be able to have a house call practice and so felt she could do that, without the care manager component. Additionally, she teaches in a graduate NP program and wanted to develop a program in an assisted living center as her business, allowing her to precept students. Great advice! Many visits to see a LPN or FNP is all that's really required and they have great potential to help in medical treatments too.
