SOME NORTH AMERICAN RETAILERS SAY NO TO BANGLADESH FACTORY SAFETY AGREEMENT (410 hits)

A new agreement which demands a 5 year commitment from participating retailers to conduct independent safety inspections of factories and to pay $500 per year toward safety improvements has at least 14 Major retailers refusing to sign the new safety standard.

The agreement titled the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh passed on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in which 14 major North American retailers declined to participate. Included in the decline was listed Walmart which claimed to have other separate working initiatives to improve working conditions. Some Major European retailers have signed the agreement and made the 5 year commitment for building safety giving full support.

A new agreement for safety of buildings have prompted from several building incidents involving fire; and the latest enormous toll of life when a factory garment building tumbled down killing hundreds on April 24, 2013. It is a one of first of a many agreement necessary to help secure some safety standards are in place for factory and garment workers which are serviced with large major retailers in North America.

Fair is fair, these workers deserve a fair and safe place to do production work for those huge retailers demands. It is far too long of a wait, and too many lives lost not to do anything, but say no.
