Right now, casting is underway for Think Like a Man Too—the sequel to Steve Harvey’s hit comedy Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. I wasn’t surprised when I heard the news, since women are always wondering what goes on in the minds of the opposite s*x. Therefore, there will always be long lines outside of movie theaters that feature films finding an answer to our endless questions about relationships, love, commitment and intimacy.
When I was younger and played the “What Super Power Would You Wish For” game, I always wanted to be an invisible mind reader. I wanted to eavesdrop on my family’s conversations without being caught and peek into my neighbors’ lives in the privacy of their homes. I wanted to see if how they acted outside actually occurred inside. I didn’t hope to gain anything from it. I was just a bit nosey. As an adult, I still think that being an invisible mind reader would be a pretty awesome power to possess. I would definitely activate it and find out what’s really going on in the minds of men I meet.
Recently, I caught up with the film’s producer, Will Packer, to find out what he really thinks about dating. Fortunately, I didn’t need to be superwoman to get a glimpse inside his head.
Heather: Hi Will. Let’s start out with an easy question. What types of women catch your attention?
Will: I am attracted to women who are smart and independent yet not afraid of being dependent. I don’t want to be with someone who thinks she doesn’t need me.
Heather: Sometimes women don’t want men to think they can’t function in life without them, so the ‘I’m independent’ message may come off a bit strong, that’s all. A lot of times you want a man to compliment you not complete you. So what advice would you give singles, besides being a bit more vulnerable?
Will: Women should be happy first. So many women focus on a clock ticking. They wonder what they are going to do next; what am I going to do by myself. Be happy right where you are. If you want to learn how to ski, get out there and do it. Don’t wait around for someone to take a class. You never know, you might meet a brother on the slopes. Men are attracted to women who are comfortable in their skin and enjoy their lives.
Heather: Some women with children don’t think men without children will be attracted to them, especially if they experienced a bad breakup. I like to think a child is a bonus not baggage.
Will: I don’t know if it’s a bonus. That’s an extra mouth to feed. (Laughs) Seriously, I’m dating a woman who has a three-year-old son. I found out about her child early on in the relationship, and it had no bearing at all regarding my decision to move forward. It’s part of who you are, so embrace it. A lot of men are attracted to those motherly, caring characteristics.
Heather: Thank you Will! I think women should embrace everything about themselves–their bodies, children, education, appearance and all that they have to offer the world.
