ICE NEEDLES TAKE A MINNESOTA'S BEACH TO ERUPTION (2078 hits)

YOUR SCIENCE/WEATHER NEWS
APRIL 2013
Day 28
Eastern, Minnesota

The needles!

Minnesota Medicine Lake had a different type of eruption. No it wasn't a volcano, or a explosion. It was ice needles. Beach goers enjoyed the sun, after days of heavy snow storms. Rarely seen ice needles form when strong winds by a beach or body of water pushes thin ice from a cooler area to shore and warmer temps in at least the high 70's impact the shoreline and thus this causes the ice to splinter, Sounds complicated, but who needs science lessons to enjoy the rarity of such a beautiful natural action unfolding the eruptions right before your eyes.

As tourists of Medicine Lake, in Minnesota discovered. The glitter was all ice needles as it also made twinkling sounds as it formed it's eruption mounds. Although the needles will melt, Minnesota residents are in the line to expect more snow according to local forecasts by May o1, 2013. People enjoyed while it lasted, but that'll be soon ....all sewn up!

MARVELOUS!
I bet they can prick your finger, and
off to sleep you'll go.
Okay, I was just being funny.

No, Irma Memphis doesn't have any rice fields, but surrounding counties might grow soybeans, cotton, wheat and barley or corn. These include counties of Arkansas, Mississippi portions of eastern Tennessee. Never seen a rice field in person only on television. The cotton fields though I have, my daddy raised acres of it! I come from a family of sharecroppers.

Irma, speaking of pictures, I keep forgetting to call Tamme. I was going to do so last night but then I was on the conference call until 10:30. I will try today and see if she has them. Only 3 more days and I would like to get them on Sunday from whoever has them.

@JEN, Ice needles! I think it's one of the beauties of nature and weather. Such a surprise to see how they just pop up!. I'm a kid when seeing things like this.

@IRMA, Boon docks or not, there is nothing like country! And you seem to have so much to view of nature's bounty. Cotton is a beautiful crop to see. I remember playing with the bows of cotton, and as I only picked, and chopped very little I remember it's smell. I also would play with cotton stems, breaking them and making the peel of them have long curly hair. It's was entertaining play for little country girls while the grown ups worked the fields.
I tell you the memories of me with my family is as fresh as morning dew. Just once in a lifetime experience, and a lost time many will never discover.

@ Robert; How incredible. 15 inches! that's awesome! I think I'd stay indoors. Do you go out in such conditions?

@Steve: So glad you are liking the art, and the love notes. I send them to a list of people and so as long as I am able you'll be getting them from time to time. Love u.

We got the rain today, the first day of the Music Festival starts tomorrow, every year for three years it's been graced with raining days. Yet, they Music Fest goes on rain or shine. Turned a little cooler but they are expecting some break by Saturday.
