Hospital Made A Mistake And Now Brooklyn Mom Has Only 6 Months To Live (1094 hits)
In February 2010, Laverne Wilkinson of Brooklyn, New York, felt chest pains and thought she was having a heart attack. So she went to see a doctor at Kings County Hospital. But despite her X-ray showing a suspicious nodule in her lung, she was told to go home and take pain medication. Now, she has Stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to her liver, spine and brain.
Apparently, the radiologist had recommended in his original written report that Wilkinson have a followup X-ray in three months, and if "clinical concern warrants, a CT scan is suggested." But she was never given this information. Not during her appointment in 2010, and not during two years of followup clinic appointments, during which she complained of a chronic cough.
When she returned to the ER in spring 2012 - wheezing and short of breath - a new chest X-ray was taken, and it showed the nodule was cancerous, had more than doubled in size and spread to her left lung. Sadly, had she been properly diagnosed in 2010, the nodule could have been easily removed and it would have never spread.
Jen, are there any medical associations that address these malpractice issues?

@ Steve,
The medical boards try their best to make sure that every licensed physician is current with best practices, education, and training requirements. I used to have a website where you could look up a doctor by their license number to find out if he/she had any pending litigations, complaints, or disciplinary actions against them. I'll try to find that link. I have it somewhere saved to one of my many Yahoo file folders.
@ Saint,
Yep!!! I've worked the ER and it happens. If the ER or radiologist does't catch the error, its likely to not be caught because the way things are ... people / patients are in and out like revolving doors! It's unfortunate for the patients and their families especially if there are small kids... the kids are the ones who feel the loss the MOST!
This is so tragic. Using SRT, we heal medical people. When you heal the healers, you heal a whole community. I am so passionate about helping people to find out about SRT because it works! And a lot of this kind of thing can be prevented.

/* Having 'Health Coverage' weighs in on the way she was treated as well. There have been many cases of condescending attitudes towards the poor... "Take two aspirins and call me in the morning," preferably next year.
It's a terrible shame these things occur - it's a CRIME!
I agree with you, Gregory. But what a lot of people do not realize is that rich people often get terrible medical treatment as well. In the U.S., medicine is a business and patient care often gets sidelined to business interests. One of the few positive things I can say about the UK - we still have free medical treatment for all here.

Zhana, I'm curious why you say "One of the few positive things I can say about the UK". What are the negative things?

Also note that people with money get the best because he who pays the Piper, dictates the tune as evidenced by the VIP suites in hospitals here in the States.
When I say "free", I mean free at the point of delivery. So no one ever has to worry about whether they can afford the cost of medical treatment.

Steve, there are many difficulties associated with living in the UK. It is a racist society, among other things. Black people came here in large numbers in the 1950s and '60s (although there have been Black people living here since Roman times and there were large communities of Black people in London in Elizabethan days). They were treated shamefully and one still encounters the attitude that we don't belong here. Check out this blog post: http://ancestralenergies.blogspot.co.uk/20...
But when I first came here, education was free. Nobody had to worry about finding the cost of their education or health care.

And I believe we should pay taxes so that the less-well-off can benefit.

No, Jen and Jake, it is a myth that rich people get good-quality health care in the States. Sir Elton John was misdiagnosed when he had pneumonia last year - VIP suite notwithstanding.

Thanks Zhana, I'll check out the link. That's interesting about Elton John. I'll check that out too.

/* Hello Zhana: I've weighed in a comment to your web log posting (Blogspot - http://ancestralenergies.blogspot.co.uk/20... ). I'll post it here as well just in case the comment didn't get posted in a timely fashion...
Peace and Love,
Greg. > /* Black folk have been disenfranchised, disrespected, villainized, ostrasized, ridiculed, alienated, and demonized allover this globe, simply because we are Black! All men and women on this planet Earth have evolved from Black People!
John wasn't misdiagnosed. He had the flu which is a virus and aren't treated with antibiotics rather the symptoms are treated such as fever and pain from muscle aches. Many times, flu results in bronchial or lung infections for which John experienced as complication of flu. The guy was walking around thinking he still was getting over the flu. That isn't the hospital or doctor's fault.
Typically people with money in the STATES are treated as VIOs although I do understand that doesn't happen over there where you live in Royal Country.
I was looking at the 2009 health scare where Elton came down with pneumonia so disregard the comment to Zhana. These people believe so much in their Univ Health Care. I would speculate that Elton probably suffers from chronic bronchitis that made it appear that he was misdiagnosed. In my experience, it can be hard to distinguish. Moreover, it's not un-common in someone who has chronic issues like bronchitis to have exacerbation s of the condition especially in older people like Elton, frequent travel, little rest, and performing in rain, cold, and what knot.
No, Jen, I was not talking about 2009, I was talking about last year when EJ was misdiagnosed in the States. In the States, people think that if you are rich, you get good quality healthcare, but that is a complete myth.
I was told this many years ago before I moved to the UK and I did not believe it, but it is definitely true, as I know now.
In the UK, it is different as healthcare is free at the point of delivery. So no, do not DISREGARD what I have said. It is your choice, actually, if you want to ignore the facts as I did in the past.

A recent study has shown that Americans are getting sicker and have shorter lifespans than people in other developed countries. Go here to read my blog: http://ancestralhealing.blogspot.co.uk/201... Wednesday, February 6th 2013 at 6:03AM
