Dance Students Take Master Class with anonymous bodies dance company (1142 hits)

Nearly 35 students in the Rec. 121 Dance class filled the Cope Hall gym for a special dance experience on Tuesday. Accompanied by pounding music from an Ipod, they were led through a Master Class by Danielle Strawmyer, choreographer/rehearsal director of anonymous bodies. After a workout of steps, turns, and other dance steps, the hour-long class dispersed. Remaining behind were 10 student volunteers who followed Stawmyer to the Marian Anderson Music Center stage to begin practice for the Thursday performance there.
The students will be part of an evening of abstract dance performed by anonymous bodies, a Philadlephia-based dance company.The performance at Marion Anderson Music Center begins at 7:30 pm. Admission is free for CU students, faculty and staff, and cost $20 for the general public. Tickets should be purchased in advance
Arrangements were made for the special class by Antoinete Crawford-Gilmore, adjunct Professor of Dance at CU, as well Founder, CEO and Artistic Director of Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble.
Drawing upon the traditions of visual art, post-modern dance, site-specific study, conceptual and performance arts, audience participation and public spectacle, anonymous bodies co-directors have won numerous awards, including a 2012 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival LAB Fellowship and a 2007 Pew Fellowship in Choreography. Known for their creative use of ordinary space, anonymous bodies "has a gift for making pockets of space feel infinite. Wild imagination ruled.” (The New York Times).
