CHANGING POISON INTO MEDICINE..."PLEASE LET ME ACCEPT THE THINGS "I" CAN NOT CHANGE"...TOMORROW I WILL HAVE TO (522 hits)

CALL THE ELECTION'S CLERK AND LET HER KNOW I CAN NOT WORK ON THE POLL NOV.6.!!! "I" CAN NOT REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I HAVE HAD TO MAKE SUCH A HARD DECISSION AS THIS ONE. MY WHOLE BODY IS RIGHT NOW IS ON FULL ALERT TO FIGHT AGAINST MY NEW CHEMO. i AM FINE AS LONG AS I DON'T TRY TO WALK OR IN A WAY MOVE TO QUICKLY , I AM NOT TOTALLY OUT OF BREATH.

MY CHEMO DOCTOR ORDERED ME OXYGEN BOTH STATIONARY AND PORTABLE AND HAS ORDERED ME TWO NEW INHALERS TO USE JUST BEFORE MY NEXT CHEMO TREATMENT BEGINS AT THE CANCER CENTER NOV. 13. i HAD NO IDEA HE WAS GOING TO DO THIS BUT HE EVIDENTLY KNEW ABOUT THIS TIME, TWO DAYS AFTER MY LAST CHEMO TREATMENT, I WOULD BE NEEDING ALL OF THIS AND I SURE DO. (smile) AND, AM GRATFUL FOR THEM.I RECIEVED A PHONE CALL YESTERDAY AND TODAY TELLING ME OF THESE ORDERS FROM MY DOCTOR.

NEXT WEDNESDAY I GO FOR A CT SCAN TO FIND OUT IF THE CANCER HAS GONE, SPREAD OR IS THE SAME, BUT RIGHT NOW i FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY SOME PEOPLE WILL STOP CHEMO TREATMENTS ALTOGATHER. MY WANTING TO JUST BREATH IN AND OUT WITH SUCH INTENSE LABOR MAKES ME TEMPTED TO STOP THE TREATMENT, BECAUSE I AM BEGINING TO FEEL SORT OF HELPLESS NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE AROUND!!!

JUST WANTED TO SHARE AND TO LET YOU KNOW NOT TO WORRY IF I AM NOT ON LINE . i SHOULD BE MUCH BETTER IN A FEW DAYS AND NO MORE CHEMO UNTIL WEEK AFTER NEXT....LOV YA A-L-L (JUST NEEDING TO FEEL SORRY FOR MY SELF AS I HAVE WORKED ON THE POLLS FOREVER) (S-M-I-L-E)

Irma,

Do you take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement? I started taking them to help with my circulatory and nerve pain issues. They have also helped with my mental state. I also take coenzyme Q10 (which is depleted with age and cholesterol medications), extra vitamin E, extra calcium/magnesium/zinc.

I have a very good book by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum. He is a holistic physician, prescribes medications when called for but treats nutritional deficiencies as a first line of defense. The name of the book is Real Cause Real Cure, and in the chapter on cancer is this note:

To Reduce the Side Effects of Chemotherapy, Try Antioxidents

In a review of 33 rigorous studies evaluating the effects of taking antioxidants with chemotherapy, involving 2,446 people, the supplements were found to reduce the toxic effects of the drugs. Five of the studies found that those taking the antioxidants were able to complete more doses of chemotherapy (which is sometimes stopped because of its toxicity). Antioxidants used in the studies included glutathione, melatonin, vitamin A, N-acetylcysteine,vitamin E, selenium, acetyl-L-carnitine, coenzyme Q10, and ellagic acid.

"This review provides the first systematically reviewed evidence that antioxidant supplementation during chemotherapy hold potential for reducing dose-limiting toxicities", concluded the authors in the International Journal of Cancer.

The fact that antioxidants help with chemotherapy may be just the opposite of what you've heard from your oncologist: that they harm the power of chemotherapy (and radiation) to kill cancer, because those therapies work by oxidizing cancer cells. That's simply not true. Those taking the nutritional support do better. If I have a cancer patient with an oncologist who voices this concern, I compromise: I stop the supplements for 1 week before and 1 week after each round of chemotherapy.

(If you're taking acetyl-L-carnitine to help prevent or reduce chemotherapy- or radiation-induced nerve pain - a strategy I recommend in Nerve Pain (Neuropathy) on page 373 - continue taking it, even during chemotherapy.)
