Psalm 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me.
Have you ever heard the expression, "He has a face only a mother could love"? There is something special about the love of a mother. She cares for her child even when no-one else does. The love of a father is also very special. It usually goes even beyond his love for anyone else. I used to sell Life Assurance at one time and I found that most of the time the basis for a man buying Insurance was his concern for what would happen to his children if he were to die.
But sometimes it happens that the love of a parent stops. It might take a lot for this to happen, but it can happen. Mothers have been known to turn their backs on their children. Fathers have been known to disown their children. But David tells us in this verse that the love of a father and mother do not compare with the love that the Lord has for us. For even if the time should come that our parents might turn their backs on us, He never will.
Meditate on this awhile and realise the great love that the Father has for us. He loved us enough to give up the best He had for us. He loved us enough to call us out of darkness into light. He loved us enough to set us free from sin and Satan. Surely His love is enough to continue even when we fail miserably? Surely He will not turn His back on us when we stumble and fall flat on our faces?
What would it take for your mother and father to turn their backs on you? Know that even this will not cause the Lord to turn His back on you. Does this knowledge make you want to go out and sin? It doesn't do that to me. It makes me love Him all the more, and I want to give Him my all.
