July 1st is the calendar date for Mexico's presidentIal election. However, during the competition the running an election debate will not be seen by many of Mexico's televison watchers. The candidates debating on Sunday, May 6, 201 will not be airing on two of Mexico's largest networks as they will continue with their regular scheduled programming. The election of a new president is considered a most important voting process, because of recent violent deaths related to drugs and law enforcements in Mexico. The two largest stations; Televista's Channel 2 and TV Azteca will be showing either the dance competiton on Channel 2; or the popular Mexico soccer teams on Azteca. Election officals wanted the game to be reschedule in order that the presidental debate can be viewed by potential voters in the upcoming election in July. However, it's not much change in programming from the large networks and both are committing to keep the option" to opted out" of airing the debates.
Front runner in the debate candidate Enrique Pena Nieto was quoted by reported sources said "It's a shame, because the debate is an important moment in the presidential race." Two other candidates in the race include Josefina Vazquez Mota and Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Some election officials are not blaming the media, but are anaylzing it as a way the media has not trivialized politics.
