Your Thoughts Re: Does Wearing a Hoodie Make You A Hoodlum Or Just Look Like One? (922 hits)
Picture of -- U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) on the House Floor wearing a hoodie during a speech. He stated, “Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum.”
Being that I'm a free woman, I'm still of the opinion that PhD or not, Rep. Rush looks like a hoodlum in that photo. Irma, you are free to make all the blog rebuttals you like, but Black men have no business wearing hoodies especially if it might get them profiled, stereotyped, or even worse... killed like it did Trayvon Martin. Let's use common sense which isn't so common these days and let's teach our little boys how to survive and respond appropriately when being questioned.

a hoodie doesnt allow your brain to understand that ELECTIONS have consequences --- floridians elected a state senate and state governor that Legislated a law that allows for a suburban person to shoot in self defense an urbanHood wearing guy, and other urban hoodedGuys in gangs to shoot one another......
a hoodie doesnt allow on to have the patience to stand in the rain with a hood and VOTE, but to go to the store for skittles?

How have you been lady? Haven't seen you on here in a minute! I hope all is well with you and your family. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment on this blog; however, I believe that we as African American parents have to use discretion when we purchase clothing for our children. We are judged by the way we dress and there is no two ways about that which one reason why we are told to dress for success in an interview. Not meaning to go spiritual, but I believe you are a spiritual sister from prior blogs that I have read by you; the bible states... in the book of 1 Samuel 16:7 for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. Look again at that picture of Rep. Rush for which I posted to this blog. He looks like a hoodlum irrespective of whether or not he has a PhD. We have to go back to the days or our ancestors when they took pride in the way they looked. I remember growing up and it was practically an abomination to be seen with a headscarf or hair rollers in the hair in public. Remember when showing your 'slip' was a major embarrassement. Now a days women hardly even wear panties, none the less... to each his/her own.
Speaking on Fox & Friends, Geraldo Riverio saying:
“I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was." 1
Geraldo was speaking about the hooded sweatshirt that 17-year old Trayvon Martin was wearing when he was followed and was gunned down by George Zimmerman. Geraldo went even further and implied that if “dark-skinned” kids don’t want to be attacked or racially profiled then they should stop wearing hoodies.
A Latino man speaks wisdom here. I couldn't agree with him more on this matter.
I wear a hoodie all the time. It's not a fashion statement, hoodlum statement or any other kind of statement. It keeps my damn head warm!
