Uproar Over Cover of 9/11 Memorial Album: Composer says he is ' amazed ' at the controversy over the image (801 hits)
August 19, 2011 Composer says he is ' amazed ' at the controversy over the image selected. Reaction seems ' completely wrong ' Steve Reich, the Pulitzer-winning American composer, has pulled the controversial artwork for his upcoming Sept. 11 memorial album. The cover of the album, "WTC 9/11," featured an image of a plane flying into the World Trade Center. When Reich, a pioneer of minimalist classical music, unveiled the cover last month, it was immediately met with criticism.
I was completely horrified when I saw this image and I immediately felt the trauma of 9/11 ALL over again! How insentive. Little did I know how much my life would change when WTC Towers were attacked. Once a name was finally given (in 2008) to what I had been suffering from after the 9/11 attacks, I was able to get the much needed mental health treatment that saved my life. People now a days are so used to viewing violent images, that they have become desensitized, but thank God there are people still left in the world who know the image of a plane flying into the WTC Towers was REAL.
If he wanted to pay tribute or make a memorial cover, the guy should have used pictures of the Towers as they were BEFORE 9/11! They were so beautiful.
Do you think he made the right choice by removing it?
Oh do I know too, well the Fight or Flight mechanism both in my studies and from experience. Reich is definitely desentitized. It was the right decision to scrap that cover especially if he wanted to sell his music. They say follow the money....

My heartfelt prayers go out to all who lost loved ones and friends in that horrible event. I also pray for the first responders who are now suffering health related issues from the event.
Well you know me and my seeking the other side of a story...the celebration of the ann.of the distruction of the federal building in Ok was one of joy and not one complaint of this joy...but maybe this is because the towers were not a big government building?!? This building held infants on its ground floor even. (nup)

@Jake not to worry that the time is not right for most to believe taht the Bush administration knew this attack was coming...and I say this because it is still being rejected the truth of our government knew the attack of Pearl Habor was coming...dispite the fact that that attack was the first and last time all of our military planes were put in O-N-E place and all of them SUCCESSFULLY distroyed...
but it did cause America to end up going to war with Hitler against England ( that America had stedfastly refused to enter into WWIIuntil this attack)when it was Japan that attacked us not Germany!!!...
as history repeats itself Afganistan attacked us and we attacked Iraq...but if it works why change it, huh????? (nup / smile)
