10 Birthday Gifts We Should Give President Obama>>>> For most of us, a milestone birthday is a signature moment to stop and reflect on our lives – family, career, children and friends quickly come to mind. Yet, despite Obama's self-proclaimed “dents and dings in the fender,” the president is very positive about aging. “I feel real good about the 5-0,” Obama told NPR on July 22. “I’ve got a little grayer since I took this job, but otherwise, I feel pretty good.”
Valerie Jarrett, his longtime friend and confidant, said in an interview with Politico that the president started to come to grips with his aging as it became a recurring theme that began with “spontaneous” references to the president’s graying hair, both in public and private settings. “It’s not weighing on him — he’s very comfortable with the stage of life that he’s in,” Jarrett, who is also his White House senior advisor, said to Politico. ”He shares in a very lighthearted way. It’s just a reality. It’s a common feeling that many men and women of his age experience as life moves on.”
So, here we have it: Obama is turning 50 and proud of it. He said his girls, Malia and Sasha, think his gray makes him look distinguished. “And Michelle, you know, says that, you know, she still thinks I’m cute,” Obama told NPR’s Michel Martin, “and I guess that’s all that matters, isn’t it?” Well, Mr. President, we have a few thoughts of our own as you turn 50.
