Jury Convicts Ex-Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Trying to Sell or Trade Obama’s Old Senate Seat (479 hits)
The New York Times Monday, June 27, 2011 -----A jury in Chicago on Monday convicted the former governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, of nearly all the corruption charges against him, including trying to sell or trade the Senate seat once held by President Barack Obama.
Jurors delivered their verdicts Monday after deliberating nine days.
Mr. Blagojevich had faced 20 charges, including the Senate seat accusation and that he schemed to shake down executives for campaign donations. He testified for seven days, denying wrongdoing. Prosecutors said he lied and the proof was on F.B.I. wiretaps.
