Room for Debate: Is Anti-White Bias a Problem? (753 hits)

Join the Conversation - Room for Debate
“A new study by Michael Norton and Samuel Sommers has found that Americans think significant progress has been made in the fight against anti-black bias. But white Americans perceived that progress as coming at their expense and that anti-white bias has become a bigger societal problem than anti-black bias. Is this finding surprising? Do we see this view reflected in government policies or court decisions? If so, how?”

Readers' Comments:

“Of course there is anti-white bias. There is no doubt that my grandson will have to do better to get into a top graduate school than the grandson of my friend, who is a doctor, simply because my friend is black.”

“MLK's dream is irrelevant as long as there are divisions encouraged by those who benefit from the continued existence of such things - and at this point, it is those who promote the idea that one race or ethnicity deserves special treatment.”

Individuals are conditions to think from the perspective of their own particular culture group, family, tribe, nation,k neighborhood, gang, etc.

Its not so surprising.

They may feel that way but they are wrong.

A rising tide lifts ALL boats. When one of us elevates, we are ALL taller.

That is because our group identification is wider, larger and more inclusive than just an ethnic/culture group or tribe.

If you take the larger view that we are all members of the HUMAN FAMILY, everybody wins.

Brother Rich,
You are the first brave soul to comment on this blog and thanks for your contribution. I have a colleague at work who believes that her son is being discriminated against because he's White and not getting the job he has been seeking. She has stated over and over that the place is only hiring minorities and women as evidenced by her son't ex-girlfriend getting the job instead of her son. Perhaps it may be that her son isn't qualified?

Any-who... I digress but the thing that you have said that strikes me most is the bracketed quote below:
[ Individuals are conditions to think from the perspective of their own particular culture group, family, tribe, nation,k neighborhood, gang, etc]

So true my friend!! When we all beging to look at the bigger picture (we're all apart of the Human Race) then we are less likely to think so small to our own individual ethnic groups. I can't understand it at times why we miss it over and over that we are all apart of the Human family? When we see one another as connected and extensions of one another, the color of our individual skin seems to be less important at least it is to me. I can go on and on about this very topic, but hopefully we will try to develop better relationships with one another.

I for one refuse to sympathize with anyone who thinks there is an anti-white bias. I think it's hogwash and just making excuses. But I will continue to speak against the concept of race, which in my opinion needs to be eradicated from the collective mind of mankind.

Funny I know, don't know why I chose to bite my tongue in this case. Maybe just for variety.
