Can single parents homeschool? One Mom’s Story (881 hits)
One Mom’s Story Well, just ask one who’s done it! On today’s Home School Heartbeat, HSLDA President Mike Smith talks with a busy mom about her experience.
Mike Smith: This week on Home School Heartbeat, our guest is Liz Curry, a homeschooling mom of four children. Liz, we thank you for joining us.
Liz Curry: Oh, thank you! Nice to be with you.
Mike: Liz, could you share with our listeners a little bit about your homeschooling experience?
Liz: Well, like you said, I’m a homeschool mom; I’ve been homeschooling approximately 11 years with four children: Bonnie, Brad, Kathy, and Tyrah. And I’ve homeschooled in different settings—I’ve homeschooled as a single mom, I’ve homeschooled as a married mom, I’ve homeschooled in the poorest of poor areas, and I’ve homeschooled in the suburbs. But in all of that, I worked the entire time I was homeschooling.
Mike: Liz, what would your answer be to someone who said that because they’re a single parent, they just simply can’t homeschool?
Liz: I would say that they can homeschool. Based on my experience and other single moms, it is possible to homeschool. I’m not saying that it’s easy, but it is possible.
Mike: So you can do it!
Liz: You can homeschool your children and you can work, but there’s a technique to it.
Mike: Liz, thank you. We’ll be talking more next time about this subject. And until then, I’m Mike Smith.
Thanks Saint. I think in this day and time, parents married and single need to be innovative thinking out of the box. It's easier to home now than ever before with all the technology out there.
